Pyth Network review

Reviewed

Overview

Pyth Network is an oracle: it brings prices of crypto, stocks, currencies and commodities onto blockchains. It started in 2021 on Solana, with backing from the trading firm Jump Trading.

Unlike most oracles, Pyth gets data directly from the source: more than 120 exchanges, market makers and trading firms publish their own prices to Pyth.

How it works

  • Publishers send prices to Pythnet, Pyth’s own chain, which combines them into one price with a confidence range.
  • Apps pull the latest price onto their chain when they need it, which makes Pyth fast and cheap across 100+ blockchains.
  • Pyth Pro, launched in 2025, sells market data subscriptions to traditional finance firms.

In August 2025, the US Department of Commerce chose Pyth, together with Chainlink, to publish official economic data such as GDP on blockchains.

Buybacks

  • The PYTH Reserve began buying PYTH in late 2025 with part of the DAO’s treasury.
  • In October 2026, the DAO approved sending 100% of eligible product revenue to PYTH buybacks automatically. Pyth’s annualized recurring revenue was about $11.5 million, up 86% in a quarter. Bought PYTH goes to the DAO treasury rather than being burned.

The PYTH token

PYTH at a glance
Maximum supply 10 billion PYTH
In circulation (Oct 2026) about 7.9 billion
Price (29 Oct 2026) about $0.072
All-time high about $1.20 (March 2024)
Market cap about $570 million (#98)

PYTH is used for governance and to stake on data quality. Large blocks of locked PYTH are released each May, with the final unlock in 2027.

Risks

  • Revenue vs. unlocks. Buybacks are small compared with tokens being released.
  • Competition. Chainlink dominates the oracle market and has deeper bank partnerships.
  • Data risk. A bad price feed could cause losses for apps that rely on it.

Our verdict

Pyth has built one of crypto’s best data networks and is now selling to traditional finance, with all eligible revenue going to buybacks. But revenue is still small and unlocks continue until 2027. PYTH is a high-risk investment: invest only what you can afford to lose.
