Overview
Notcoin started as a simple game inside Telegram in January 2024: you tapped a coin on your screen to earn points. It was built by Open Builders, a team in the TON ecosystem.
The game went viral. Around 35 million people played it, many of them new to crypto. In May 2024, the points were turned into the NOT token on The Open Network (TON), which launched on Binance, OKX and Bybit on the same day and quickly reached a value of over $1 billion.
Notcoin kicked off the tap-to-earn wave on Telegram, followed by games like Hamster Kombat and Catizen, and helped make 2024 TON’s biggest year.
How it works
The original game was simple: tap, earn points, invite friends, join squads and complete tasks. When the token launched, players converted their points (or special vouchers) into NOT.
Since then, the team has expanded into Not Games, a platform of Telegram mini-games, quests and competitions that use NOT for rewards and entry. NOT can be traded on major exchanges and on TON’s decentralized exchanges such as STON.fi and DeDust.
The NOT token
| NOT at a glance | |
|---|---|
| Supply | about 102 billion NOT |
| In circulation (Oct 2026) | about 99 billion |
| Price (21 Oct 2026) | about $0.0004 |
| All-time high | about $0.028 (June 2024) |
| Market cap | about $40 million (#543) |
About 78% of the supply went to players, a very fair distribution compared with most crypto launches, which usually give large shares to teams and investors. Almost all tokens are already in circulation.
NOT peaked about two weeks after launch and has fallen about 99% since, as players sold and attention moved on.
Risks
- No lasting demand. Most players joined to earn free tokens and sold them. The game’s audience shrank sharply after the launch.
- Trend risk. The tap-to-earn trend on Telegram faded in late 2024, and most similar tokens fell over 95%.
- Volatility. With a small market value, NOT can swing sharply on exchange news or Telegram announcements.
- TON dependence. NOT’s fortunes are tied to Telegram and TON.
Notcoin vs. the competition
| Notcoin | Hamster Kombat (HMSTR) | Toncoin | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type | Tap-to-earn game token | Tap-to-earn game token | Blockchain currency |
| Blockchain | TON | TON | Own (TON) |
| Distribution | ~78% to players | Mostly to players | Mining, sales, foundation |
| Use today | Not Games, trading | Game, trading | Fees, staking, Telegram payments |
Our verdict
Notcoin is a real piece of crypto history: a simple Telegram game that brought tens of millions of people into crypto and showed how to launch a token fairly.
But the hype is gone, and NOT has lost about 99% of its value with little real use to support it. NOT is a pure speculation on a revival of Telegram gaming: invest only money you are fully prepared to lose.
