Overview
The Canton Network is a blockchain built for banks and financial institutions, developed by Digital Asset, a company led by Yuval Rooz. It launched in 2023 with participants including Goldman Sachs, BNP Paribas, Deloitte and others.
Banks are wary of public blockchains, where everything is visible. Canton offers privacy by design: each party only sees the data it is allowed to see, while different apps can still work together and settle trades instantly.
How it works
- Institutions run their own apps (for example, for bonds, repo loans or funds) on Canton.
- Apps can connect so that assets and cash move together in atomic settlement: either everything happens, or nothing does.
- Super Validators, many of them large financial firms, help run the network.
- Broadridge, for example, uses Canton for repo trading worth trillions of dollars a month.
In 2025, DTCC chose Canton to tokenize part of the US Treasuries it holds, with a pilot in 2026, and DTCC and Euroclear became co-chairs of Canton’s governance. Digital Asset has raised hundreds of millions of dollars from investors including a16z crypto.
The Canton Coin (CC)
| CC at a glance | |
|---|---|
| Supply (Oct 2026) | about 40 billion CC |
| Price (29 Oct 2026) | about $0.10 |
| All-time high | about $0.19 (February 2026) |
| Market cap | about $4.1 billion (#27) |
Canton Coin pays fees on the network and rewards validators and app providers. It was launched in 2025 without a pre-sale to investors: new coins are created as rewards for running and building on the network.
Risks
- Closed ecosystem. Ordinary users can’t easily use Canton apps, and DeFi activity is minimal.
- Opaque activity. Because data is private, outsiders can’t easily check how much is happening.
- Token link. Banks may use Canton heavily without that turning into strong demand for CC.
- Supply. New CC is created continuously as rewards.
Canton vs. the competition

Our verdict
Canton is one of the strongest bridges between crypto and traditional finance: real institutions use it for real trades, and DTCC’s pilot adds weight.
But it is a very different world from open crypto, its token’s value depends on new mechanisms, and CC has fallen about 47% from its high. CC is a high-risk bet on Wall Street’s blockchain. Invest only what you can afford to lose.
