Trust Wallet

Overview

Trust Wallet is one of the most downloaded crypto wallets in the world, with tens of millions of users. It started in 2017 and was bought by Binance in 2018, but it remains a self-custody wallet: your keys stay on your phone, not with Binance.

Its strength is breadth. Trust Wallet supports more than 100 blockchains — Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Chain, Solana, Tron, TON, XRP, Cosmos chains and many more — in one simple app.

How it works

Creating a wallet takes a minute: the app generates a 12-word recovery phrase that you must write down, and a passcode or biometrics protects the app. You can hold several wallets, import existing ones and add custom tokens.

Trust Wallet also offers Swift, a smart-contract wallet on EVM chains that uses your device’s passkey instead of a seed phrase and lets you pay network fees in other tokens.

Features

  • Buy crypto through partner providers, and sell to some bank accounts.
  • Swap tokens on the same chain or across chains through integrated aggregators.
  • Stake more than 20 coins, including BNB, SOL, ATOM and TRX.
  • Use dApps through the built-in browser or WalletConnect.
  • Manage NFTs on Ethereum, BNB Chain, Solana and others.
  • Browser extension for desktop, with Ledger support.

Security

The mobile app has a good record, but the browser extension does not have a clean history:

  • December 2025 extension hack. Version 2.68 of the Chrome extension shipped with malicious code disguised as an analytics feature. It stole recovery phrases from users who opened it, and roughly $7 million was drained from hundreds of wallets. Trust Wallet said the mobile app and other versions were not affected, released version 2.69, and Binance’s founder said victims would be fully reimbursed. The suspected cause was a leaked Chrome Web Store publishing key.
  • 2023 key-generation bug. A flaw in how some extension wallets created in late 2022 generated keys led to about $170,000 in losses; Trust Wallet reimbursed affected users.

Lessons: keep the extension updated, keep large holdings off browser wallets, and move savings to a hardware wallet. Trust Wallet will never ask for your recovery phrase.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • One of the widest ranges of supported chains and tokens.
  • Very easy for beginners.
  • Built-in staking, swaps and a dApp browser.
  • Free, with no account or KYC.

Cons

  • Serious extension hack in December 2025 (users were reimbursed).
  • Swap and buy fees through partners can be high.
  • Not fully open source.
  • Close ties to Binance may concern some users.

Who it’s for

Trust Wallet is a good everyday mobile wallet for people who hold coins on many different chains and want one simple app. The mobile app is the safer choice; use the extension with care.

Verdict

Trust Wallet is simple, broad and free, which explains its popularity. The 2025 extension incident is a reminder that browser wallets carry extra risk. Use the mobile app for daily spending and keep long-term savings in cold storage.
