Overview

Rabby is a wallet made by the team behind DeBank, the DeFi portfolio tracker. It is designed as a safer, smarter alternative to MetaMask for people who use DeFi on Ethereum and other EVM chains. It is open source and self-custody.

How it works

You create a wallet with a seed phrase or import one from MetaMask. Rabby then works with any app that supports MetaMask, but adds useful details: it switches network automatically when a site needs it, and before every signature it shows exactly what will leave and enter your wallet.

Features

  • Supports more than 100 EVM networks, with no manual network setup.
  • Pre-sign checks: warnings about new contracts, suspicious addresses and unlimited approvals.
  • Portfolio view across all chains, powered by DeBank data.
  • Approval manager to revoke old token permissions.
  • Strong hardware wallet support, plus Gnosis Safe multisig.
  • Built-in swaps and bridges comparing many aggregators.

Security

Rabby’s code is public and audited. In October 2022 a bug in Rabby’s swap contract was exploited, costing users about $200,000; the team compensated affected users. The wallet itself has no record of key theft.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Excellent transaction previews and risk warnings.
  • Automatic network switching.
  • Great for multi-chain DeFi.
  • Open source with strong hardware wallet support.

Cons

  • EVM only — no Solana or Bitcoin.
  • More information on screen than beginners may want.

Who it’s for

Rabby is ideal for DeFi users who interact with many EVM chains and want to know exactly what they are signing.

Verdict

For EVM DeFi, Rabby is arguably the best wallet available. Its pre-sign checks prevent costly mistakes, and it is transparent and free.
