Coinomi

MobileDesktopMulti-Asset

Overview

Coinomi launched in 2014 as one of the first multi-coin mobile wallets. It supports more than 125 blockchains and thousands of tokens, and it is self-custody: you back it up with a recovery phrase.

Features

  • Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Dash, Zcash and many older altcoins.
  • Built-in swaps through partners.
  • Custom fees and SegWit support.
  • Desktop and mobile apps.

Security

In 2019 a user claimed that the Coinomi desktop app sent his recovery phrase to Google’s spell-check service in plain text, after which he lost funds. Coinomi fixed the issue, but the incident damaged its reputation. The app is not open source.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Very wide coin support, including old altcoins.
  • Long history.

Cons

  • 2019 seed phrase controversy.
  • Not open source.
  • Dated interface, slower development.

Who it’s for

Holders of older or less common coins who need one wallet for them.

Verdict

Coinomi still works for broad coin coverage, but more modern and transparent wallets are better for most users.
