Overview
Meteora is a liquidity platform on Solana. Most people never visit its website: they swap through wallets or the aggregator Jupiter, and their trades pass through Meteora pools in the background. Meteora’s real customers are liquidity providers (LPs) and token teams that need a place to launch and trade their token.
Meteora grew out of Mercurial Finance, a Solana stablecoin protocol from 2021, and was relaunched under the Meteora name in 2023, with close ties to the team behind Jupiter. It became one of Solana’s top DEXs during the 2024–2025 meme-coin boom, because many launchpads and token teams chose its pools. Its MET token launched in October 2025.
As with other Solana DEXs, you only need a wallet such as Phantom, Solflare or Backpack. Network fees are a fraction of a cent.
Products
- DLMM (Dynamic Liquidity Market Maker): Meteora’s best-known product. Liquidity sits in price bins (small fixed price steps). LPs choose which bins to fill and a strategy shape (spot, curve or bid-ask). Inside a bin, trades have zero slippage. Fees are dynamic: they rise automatically when the market is volatile, so LPs earn more when risk is higher.
- DAMM v2 (Dynamic AMM): a simpler full-range pool, closer to a classic AMM, with optional fee schedules (for example, high fees right after a launch that fall over time to discourage sniping bots). LP positions are NFTs.
- Dynamic Bonding Curve (DBC): a toolkit that launchpads use to sell a new token on a curve and then move it automatically into a Meteora pool. Many Solana launch platforms run on it.
- DLMM Pro (since 8 October 2026): combines DLMM, DAMM v2 and DBC into one system with more control for market makers and token teams.
- Alpha Vault and Dynamic Vaults: tools for fair launches and automated lending yield.
Fees
Meteora’s fees are set per pool, which is the key thing to understand:
| Pool type | Swap fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| DLMM | Base fee (often 0.01% – 1%) + dynamic fee | Rises during volatility |
| DAMM v2 | Set by creator; can start high and decay | Launch pools may start at 10%+ and fall |
| DBC (launch phase) | Set by the launchpad | Shown before you trade |
| Network fee | Under $0.01 | Plus optional priority fee |
A part of each swap fee goes to the protocol, and since July 2026 MET stakers in the Referral Staking programme receive a share of DLMM protocol fees paid in USDC.
For traders: always check the fee shown in the swap screen, especially for newly launched tokens, where anti-bot fees can be very high for the first minutes or hours.

MET token and airdrops
MET is Meteora’s governance and staking token. Meteora has run large LP airdrops. The season 2 airdrop (20 million MET, about 2% of supply) went to users who earned LP fees on DLMM and DAMM v2 between July 2025 and June 2026. Its claim window closes on 21 October 2026. MET’s price is very volatile: it jumped more than 40% in a day after the DLMM Pro launch.
The 2025 controversy
In February 2025, Meteora’s co-founder Ben Chow resigned after the collapse of the LIBRA token, which had been promoted by Argentina’s president Javier Milei and launched using Meteora pools. Investors lost hundreds of millions of dollars. Ben Chow and others were named in lawsuits in the US over LIBRA and other celebrity tokens (including MELANIA). Meteora said the protocol itself was not at fault and changed its leadership.
The episode does not mean Meteora’s contracts were hacked, but it shows how permissionless launch tools can be used for pump-and-dump schemes.
Security and risks
- No major smart contract exploit of Meteora’s pools has been reported. Contracts are audited and open source.
- Impermanent loss: in DLMM, if the price moves out of your bins, you end up holding the falling token or miss the rise. LPing on meme coins can lose money fast even with high fees.
- Active management: DLMM positions often need to be rebalanced as the price moves. Many LPs use automated tools, which bring their own risks.
- Token risk: many tokens launched with Meteora tools are speculative or scams. Check contract addresses and token authorities before buying.

Our verdict
Meteora is the liquidity engine behind a large share of Solana’s trading, and the best playground on Solana for experienced liquidity providers. Its DLMM pools and dynamic fees are genuinely innovative, and DLMM Pro adds even more control.
For ordinary traders, Meteora is mostly invisible and works well through Jupiter. For anyone who wants to provide liquidity, it rewards skill and attention, and punishes inattention. Start with major pairs such as SOL/USDC, learn how bins and strategies work, and treat meme-coin pools as high-risk.
