History, next to the Bitcoin price

The line changes color with the zone. The bar above shows how many days of the chosen period the market spent in each zone. Hover or tap the chart to see any day. A Bitcoin cycle runs from one cycle low to the next: the lowest daily close of 2022 and of 2026 (so far).

What Bitcoin did next

For every day since 2018, we looked at Bitcoin’s price 30 and 90 days later. The answer surprises many people: buying on fearful days did not reliably beat buying on greedy ones. The index tells you how the market feels today, not what happens next.

How to read it

  • 0–25 Extreme Fear. People are panicking and selling. This is when it is hardest, and often least wise, to sell in a hurry.
  • 47–54 Neutral. No strong mood either way.
  • 76–100 Extreme Greed. Everyone is excited and buying. This is when FOMO is strongest and people take risks they later regret.

Use it as a check on your own emotions, not as a buy or sell signal. The index can stay in extreme fear or greed for weeks, and markets often keep rising while people are greedy. Read more in The FOMO trap,Herd mentality andLoss aversion.
